Dogpile!

Well I'm heading off to China in a few hours to take in the Chinese New Year in authentic style, but that doesn't mean I'm going to leave you all without a few final thoughts. Did you really think you were going to get off that easy?

Last Friday for our Golden Age Open tourney we had another very solid turn out of 10 players. Green Lanterns, two Exiles, Hellboy, Weapon X, Marauders, Purifiers and more were just a few of the decks we had hit the tables. After four rounds of play my Purifiers build only went 2-2, but I had good fun playing it and came up with an idea to tighten it up a little bit. I pulled out a turn 8 win against Exiles too, so I was more than pleased with that.

The big winner of the night was, once again, Will! I believe that makes him a whopping 12-0, as he's won three tournaments, all with flawless, no-loss records. So my parting challenge to you, my beloved Vs. Systemites...is to turn your attention to the quiet, friendly fellow who seems to win a lot. Pick his brain, ask him for strategies, milk him for deck ideas, partake of his knowledge...and then kick his butt with it! In a fun and friendly way, not a make-him-cry-and-never-want-play-again sort of way.

If I come back in February and find that someone was able to break Will's flawless record, I'll try to dig up a nice prize for you. Pile on!

Marvel Universe Miniatures Game - Avengers Painted

Shortly before the Marvel Universe Miniatures Game was released by Knight Models I picked up several single pack figures at a slight discount. The game dropped shortly after, but has so far seemed difficult to acquire in Canada. I'm hoping once I get out an do a few demos it will pick up locally like the Batman game has started to do. This is the original model for Black Widow, which I prefer greatly over the highly sexualized one that comes in the Avengers starter box. Don't get me wrong, she's a sexy character but I think the new sculpt is a little over the top. She was the first Marvel figure I painted. It a pretty easy paint job and I think she turned out well. This figure proved more difficult to paint than I expected. It's a great looking pose, but I wish the details on the shield were a little deeper. Next week's ban list

Well the deadline has passed and here's the ban-list that was submitted: - Deadpool, Party Pooper - Flying Kick - Goblin Glider - Mobilize - Warp Shards - Weapon Plus Sattelite - X-Men Assemble If a card has been printed in more than one set consider ALL versions of it to be banned for the night. It looks like most of us aren't alone in thinking that the newer sets have some of the more frustrating cards to play against. :) Go to work gentlemen!

Farewell Ozzy!

This afternoon I found out that the Prince of Darkness, Ozzy Osbourne, has passed away. Although I've been a fan since my early teens, I am surprised at how strong my reaction to the news has been. I had missed out on catching the Black Sabbath farewell show a few weeks back during live stream, so I've not yet seen it. A friend of mine told me about a few days after, and I'm looking forward to watching it when it becomes available. I've had the good fortune of seeing Ozzy perform twice; once at an outdoor stadium show with Zakk Wylde on guitar, and once with Black Sabbath several years later. I remember more about the experience of those shows than the specific details, and could not tell you set lists or anything like that. His impact on music and pop culture, both as a member of Black Sabbath and a solo artist simply cannot be understated.
